Painting (2021 - 2024)

Park's paintings deal with the theories of the racialization of beauty/anti-racist aesthetics and gender fluidity. Through the exploration of anti-racist aesthetics, Park discovers a hybrid beauty that juxtaposes Northeast Asian faces on top of racialized bodies, as a compromise between racialization (which already changed their taste and perception of beauty) and anti-racist aesthetics. Park likens the process of painting to plastic surgery or putting on make up in front of a mirror (a metaphor for the canvas), in which they mimetically fantasize about becoming a woman through the act of painting.
